Make a list of the roles in your life. Make this list as long and detailed as possible. See if you can identify the number of roles you play in a single day. For instance, when the phone rings, consider for a moment the many roles that you may be asked to play: will you become the parent, the child, the friend, the lover, or the co-worker? Do the exercises included in this chapter about investigating what your role is in your current life. What is your primary role? How comfortable are you in that role? What roles would you like to play, what roles do you feel you are being called to play, which roles are no longer satisfying to you? Talk to your friends and associates about your deepest dreams. See if you can speak in the first person declarative: “I am a photographer; I am at my best when I am capturing images on camera that reveal the true nature and significance of what I see.”
